Crafted in the village of Saschiz, Transylvania, Pivnița Bunicii's spicy tomato chutney is a vibrant, sweet and fiery preserve made with heirloom tomatoes. Based on a traditional Saxon recipe, this chutney captures the rich culinary heritage of the region, offering a perfect balance of natural sweetness, warmth and spice. It pairs beautifully with meats, cheeses and charcuterie, adding depth to any cold platter.
The heirloom tomatoes used in this chutney are part of the Ark of Taste, a global slow food initiative protecting endangered heritage foods. Through Slow Food Târnava Mare, local farmers are reviving ancient seed varieties, ensuring the survival of this treasured ingredient and its role in Transylvanian gastronomy.
