Remy Mediaș
WHO ARE REMY MEDIAȘ?
A tradition of several decades, the game of Remy/ Rummy, is kept alive in the town of Mediaș by Dumitru and Florin Roșian, father and son. The first games were manufactured in 1960, and in a short time it ended up being one of the favourite activities of Romanians. The passing of time and the falling of communism have modernised the way that people spend their free time, but somehow the game of Remy has endured.
ALL ABOUT THE GAME...
Remy Mediaș is the last factory in Romania that still has a manual process for creating the game pieces, but also the only one that creates the game through a unique process in Romania. Although many stages of the process have been mechanised, each game piece is still polished and painted by hand. Ladies paint the pieces as they have more patience, whilst men create the game case which made out of solid wood. The pieces are made from stone not plastic, which makes them resistant and gives them that specific sound when they collide.
So the game that has stood the test of time really is a game to last a lifetime...
